4th Precinct Highlights - Week 543 - June 17 - 23, 2008

ASSAULT
2533 IRVING TUESDAY 1554 HOURS 08-180643
Officers were dispatched to a SHOOTING but found it to be shots fired at an occupied house by two black males.
626 BROADWAY TUESDAY 2130 HOURS 08-181028
Officers heard numerous shots from the Citgo lot and upon arrival observe several people running away and two males fighting. Officers spoke to uncooperative 20 year old black male w/14 CAPRS who said he was shot at and a large group assaulted him but would provide no other information. No shell casings were found. NOTE: Related STAB which occurred shortly after this incident. A 16 year old black male w/37 CAPRS tagged for Fleeing Police on Foot after being found nearby
21ST & LYNDALE TUESDAY 2250 HOURS 08-181157
Officers dispatched to a SHOOT and found an 18 year old black male w/28 CAPRS with a non threatening wound. Victim said he & friends were talking w/girls when a group of unknown black males approached, an argument ensued and he was stabbed in the back.
4149 LYNDALE WEDNESDAY 2008 HOURS 08-182133
Officer fought with a male who was harassing others. Arrested was Willie Edsimon a 30 year old black male w/4 CAPRS
620 34TH AVENUE THURSDAY 1236 HOURS 08-182889
35 year old black female w/28 CAPRS, threatened with knifes by persons known to her while attempting to retrieve property.
1926 UPTON FRIDAY 1829 HOURS 08-184483
Enroute to a SHOTS call officers observe a group matching the descriptions at Broadway & 26th. A half hour later NMMC calls with a male shot in the leg. Officers learned four males attempted to rob him @ gunpoint and when he ran to his car a suspect fired several shots striking him. The victim provided suspect names and three were arrested. Squads: 460, 424, 493, 430 and Cars 9 & 710 were notified. Arrested were Jared Ray, Cameron Briscoe & Mario Bay-Jon Collins, 21, 20 & 19 year old black males w/2, 14 & 15 CAPRS
2207 6th STREET FRIDAY 2032 HOURS 08-184633
15-20 year old black male fired shots at the house. Other parties were all uncooperative.
41st & FREMONT FRIDAY 2300 HOURS 08-184886
Uncooperative 29 year old black male w/86 CAPRS reported being stabbed in the chest by an unknown suspect. Victim transported w/non life threatening wound.
3200 GLENWOOD SATURDAY 1725 HOURS 08-185809
Park Police handled the inside of Juneteenth and 4th Precinct officers handled calls and traffic control outside of the park. Due to the shooting, the event was shut down early. Officers did an excellent job of moving people off the streets and out of the neighborhood.
ROBBERY
29th & LYNDALE TUESDAY 0630 HOURS 08-181547
The day prior while waiting for the bus 42 year old white male was robbed @ knifepoint of .60¢ by a BM/36-37 who the following day showed up again and the two got into an argument. Victim has seen the suspect around the neighborhood.
45th & COLFAX WEDNESDAY 0415 HOURS 08-181418
40 year old white male truck driver reported 4 to 5 black males jumped into his truck, broke a window, beat him and took $60.00.
20th & JAMES WEDNESDAY 1500 HOURS 08-181815
15 year old black male pushed off his bike by an 18-20 year old black male who then fled with it.
HUMBOLDT & OMHwy THURSDAY 2045 HOURS 08-184292
14 year old black male walking home when a 14-16 year old black male known from school attempted to rob him @ knifepoint.
3310 PENN FRIDAY 0001 HOURS 08-184490
57 year old black male w/11 CAPRS transported himself to the hospital with facial wounds the day following the incident. Victim said he and Greg, BM/30-35, were having a beer when suspect pulled out a knife, demanded cash and then slashed his face and stabbed him in the neck. Suspect fled on a bike with $260 and 240 Vicodin tablets.
4318 KNOX FRIDAY 0120 HOURS 08-183758
While making a delivery, a Dominoes Pizza driver was assaulted and robbed by three black males. Several parties ID’d.
22ND & 4TH AVENUE FRIDAY 2233 HOURS 08-184830
23 year old black female robbed @ gunpoint of her computer, purse and I-Pod by two 18-22 year old black males.
1733 FREMONT SATURDAY 2100 HOURS 08-186162
33 year old black female w/38 CAPRS assaulted and robbed by her cousin who was later arrested while damaging property at the location. Arrested was Lamar Herron a 24 year old black male.
40th & COLFAX SATURDAY 2230 HOURS 08-186342
40 year old white female had her purse taken by three black males who were hanging on the corner.
4141 LYNDALE SUNDAY 1200 HOURS 08-186941
While @ the bus stop a 16 year old black female had her purse taken by a 20-22 year old black male.

33rd & MORGAN WEDNESDAY 2307 HOURS 08-182380
Traffic stop led to the recovery of a 40 caliber gun and ammo. Arrested was Anthony Williams a 37 year old black male w/6 CAPRS
2723 DUPONT THURSDAY 1310 HOURS 08-182925
Responding to a SHOTS where shots were still being fired - upon their arrival officers observe two males fleeing and one throwing a gun to the ground. The males were caught and officers learned they were rolling blunts when someone shot at them and they fired back. Apparently the shooters were angry at them for buying weed from other people. Two houses had damaged and officers recovered a 45 caliber gun and 9MM casings. Combatants are allegedly gang members. 2716 Fremont possibly involved. Arrested were Jhmahl Shannon & Cortez Miller, 19 & 28 year old black males w/33 & 46 CAPRS
18th & MORGAN FRIDAY 1629 HOURS 08-183097
Responding to a PERGUN call, officers observed a large group and observe a party thrown a gun to the ground which once recovered was determined to be a BB gun. Arrested were two juvenile males, Omar Rush & Lapatrick Jackson, 17, 16, 20 & 18 year old black males w/10, 5, 17 & 16 CAPRS – three of which had current warrants
BROADWAY & IRVING SATURDAY 2019 HOURS 08-186067
Stop Officers were checking a DIST call with a possible PERGUN. Officers stopped a group of suspected and confirmed gang members and recovered a TEC 22 w/a 100 round magazine, a Cass County stolen. Males were wearing shirts clearly displaying their gang involvement and support for fellow gang members currently incarcerated. Arrested were Dashawn Jenkins, Gregory Brown, Marvale Murphy, Thomas Banks & Henry Moore, 21, 18, 19, 20 & 18 year old black males w/25, 26, 34, 6 & 32 CAPRS Marvale Murphy was later found to be a non-compliant sex offender.
2121 ILION SATURDAY 2152 HOURS 08-186203
Directed patrol after Juneteenth - PERGUN call and stopped a group and recovered two handguns. Arrested were three juvenile males & Jontae Washington, 16, 14, 17 & 18 year old black males w/5, 8, 3 & 0 CAPRS
PATROL HIGHLIGHTS SUBMITTED
1731 8th Ave – Tuesday – 1246 hours – 08-180424. Traffic squad responded to an in progress DABUSE call where the male suspect left in a car and returned on foot. The car was located nearby and was found to be a stolen taken in an occupied dwelling burglary @ 252 Washburn. Arrested was Lionel Timms a 20 year old black male w/28 CAPRS
2802 Fremont – Tuesday - 0105 hours - 08-180069. Officers observed a male yelling at a male and female who then sat on the steps of a home he doesn’t live at. Upon searching him they found a knife and crack cocaine. Arrested was Jeffery Thorpe a 39 year old black male w/28 CAPRS
700 Broadway – Tuesday – 2150 hours – 08-181056. While officers were dealing with SHOTS they hear Merwins security guard yelling for help. And found he’d observed a large male selling ecstasy in the store and was trying to arrest him. Several officers responded and arrested the male and recovered 2 baggies containing several pills. Arrested was Willie Brown a 25 year old black male w/91 CAPRS
26th & Emerson & 30th & Emerson – Tuesday – 2205 hours – 08-181082 & 08-181095. Officers were dispatched to a Hit & Run and then a fight where they observe the suspect vehicle and two parties standing by it who then ran into the building. When officers entered one male attempted to retrieve a large dog and refused to drop a glass booze bottle and shoved an officer as he came down the stairs. One male who was found hiding in a bedroom closet came at officers and force was used to arrest him. While at the squad being searched, one male pushed off the squad and swung at an officer dislocating his shoulder. Arrested were Remaro Smith & Michael Robinson, 21 & 25 year old black males w/50 & 35 CAPRS, with suspended and revoked drivers licenses.
51 Colfax – City Impound Lot - Tuesday – 2356 hours - 08-181241. Officers respond to a male breaking into cars who then fled through a hole in the fence. Officers observe a male matching the description, by a vehicle at 2nd & Girard who flees on foot but is caught a short distance away. During his arrest he resists, so is tased. Inside his car officers found a black bag filled with burglary tools. The security guard positively ID suspect. Arrested was David Bailey a 34 year old white male w/15 CAPRS, revoked drivers license.
1510 27th – Wednesday – 0730 hours – 08-181478. Officer arrived on a burglary in progress call and caught two males removing the radiators from a vacant home. One flees on foot however the other is apprehended and interviewed by property crimes. Arrested was Kennedy Johnson, a 42 year old black male w/21 CAPRS who is awaiting trial on a December 07 burglary case
1343 Irving – Wednesday – 1459 hours - 08-181797. Responding to a TRESPASS call, catch an adult male who had made entry and was stealing a stained glass window from a vacant house. Arrested was Justin Brown a 60 year old black male w/8 CAPRS, w/a theft arrest in October and two burglary arrests in November of 07
3854 Xerxes – Thursday – 0940 hours – 08-182777. Burglary in Process with remarks that suspect was previously seen at the address and was now removing items however, was gone upon officers arrival. Later in the day neighbors called saying the suspect was back again and that they’d taken pictures of him and his car. Using the pictures officers went to his house and brought him back to the scene were he was ID by numerous witnesses. Arrested was Tyrone Wade a 49 year old black male w/12 CAPRS, including burglary arrests.
700 Broadway – Thursday – 1716 hours – 08-183131. Responding to a fight call officers recovered a knife on one fighter. Arrested was Lorenzo Wilson a 68 year old black male w/87 CAPRS who’d been previously trespassed from the business.
3119 6th St N – Thursday – 1901 hours – 08-183253. After being told to leave the area, two were tagged for loitering. Arrested were Daphney Shanks & a juvenile female, 40 & 15 year old black females w/10 & 11 CAPRS.
2926 Upton – Thursday – 2310 hours – 08-183642. Officers arrived on a PERGUN call and a group of males ran however were eventually caught. PERGUN was unfounded but several booked for Fleeing Police, Curfew and Warrants. Arrested were seven juvenile black males, 16 15, 16, 17, 16, 16, & 16 years old w/26, 19, 10, 11, 23, 19, & 0 CAPRS
Broadway & Emerson – Friday – 0433 hours - 08-183862. Responding to a MUSIC call officers observe a Blue Caprice southbound on Girard blow the sign @ Plymouth. Officers pull in behind and the driver bails and chased to 1400 block of Irving. While officers were chasing the suspect a shooting was aired in the area of W Broadway/Girard. It was then learned a male had his Blue Caprice taken @ gunpoint and positively ID the suspect. Officers retraced suspect’s path but did not locate the handgun. Arrested was Jerome Smith a 27 year old black male w/81 CAPRS and a revoked drivers license.
26th & Girard – Sunday – 0348 hours – 08-186720. Officers observed a female threatening two others while brandishing a machete. The female fled on foot and fought with officers so they had to tase her. Arrested was Tiffany Hollins a 26 year old black female w/13 CAPRS.
Juneteenth - After the event ended officers conducted directed patrol and assisted district calls in handling a number of party and disturbance calls. Several suspicious people were stopped and three guns recovered during two suspicious vehicle stops.
16th & Washington – Old Colony Gas Station. Very busy throughout the week with groups of up to 100 and 60 cars. Store employees requested assistance in clearing the lot and the employees closed the business for a couple of hours which calmed things down.

Search Warrants –
3636 Morgan – Wednesday – 1426 hours – 08-181752. Recovered were seven guns (1 shotgun, 4 rifles, and 2 handguns), ammo, weed, cash and two grenades which appeared to be real but hollowed out and contained no explosive charge. Arrested was Maurice McNeil a 33 year old black male w/11 CAPRS and a 25 year old black female was ID’d. Feds are looking at taking the case.
JACT - Personnel from Mpls Juvenile Division, 4th Precinct Officers, K9 Officer, Minneapolis Park Police, Hennepin County Sheriff Deputies, Hennepin County Juvenile Probation & Deputy US Marshals made the following contacts and or arrests in the Fourth Precinct. All warrants confirmed prior to beginning field operations and at each location officers explained the purpose and objectives of JCAT.
Male @ 26XX Girard. Active: Narcotics Priors: Narcotics Loitering, Curfew X5, Flee Police on Foot, Narcotics, Disorderly Conduct & Theft. Officers encountered several persons but none admit to knowing his whereabouts.
Male @ 8XX 44th. Active: Theft. Priors: Runaway, Narcotics, Theft X2, Curfew X3, Assault 5 X2, & Burglary
Officers saw persons moving inside but they wouldn’t answer the door however they eventually gain access and arrested him. Three other young people were inside and recovered was a quantity of suspected marijuana packaged for sale, a scale, cash and a replica handgun w/working slide and removable magazine,.
Male @ 8XX 44th & 52XX Emerson. Active: Probation violation. Priors: Burglary of Dwelling X2, Disorderly Conduct X16, Runaway, Curfew, Assault 5 X14, Damage to Property X3 and Theft X3. Officers learned he is on the run.
Male @ 52XX Vincent. Active: Escape. Priors: Burglary X6 & Aggravated Robbery of Person. Subject released from Red Wing earlier this year, is reportedly involved in gangs and is on the run.
Male @ 11XX Irving. Dispatch aired a call saying he was wanted for questions by the Homicide Unit. His was located in the basement and arrested.
Male @ 19XX Hillside. Active: Receiving and Concealing. Persons were reluctant to answer the door but officers persisted and spoke with a hostile parent and arrested the subject.
Male @ 3XX1 6th St. Active: Criminal Sexual Conduct. Officers spoke with a parent but were unable to locate him.
Male @ 26XX Girard. Active: Narcotics. Priors: Narcotics Loitering, Curfew X5, Flee Police on Foot, Narcotics, Disorderly Conduct & Theft. Officers made contact with family who deny knowledge of his whereabouts however neighbors report he comes and goes from that address everyday.
Male @ 39XX 6th St N. Active: Criminal Sexual Conduct. Officers made contact and developed leads to 16XX Girard where additional information led to 34XX Emerson where the subject, his pregnant girlfriend and others were located.
Male @ 34XX Aldrich. Active: Robbery. Priors: Auto Theft, Tobacco, Spitting X2, Flee Police on Foot X2, Curfew, Threats, Disorderly Conduct, Assault, Robbery of Person, Narcotics Loitering and Obstruct the Legal Process. Subject not home.
Male @ Morgan & Broadway. Active: Escape. Priors: Curfew X3 @ Robbery of Person. Officers observed him as they were leaving the precinct however he fled on foot but was located in a nearby business and arrested.
